Upcoming Building Project FAQ

HighPoint Church Future Building
Please keep in mind that all drawings are conceptual and all numbers are estimates. Both will be continually revised until we are confident that we have a desirable design for a price that will work for the church.
1. What are our financial goals?
When we get farther into the capital funds initiative, we will
set financial goals for the campaign. At this point, we would
identify the financial goals as two-fold:
- To get the congregation as a whole to learn the Biblical principle of tithing to prepare for the increase monthly pressure on the general fund.
- To get the congregation as a whole to be sensitive to hear Gods direction in what each person's involvement in the financing of the building.
2. What is the timeline for HighPoint's building program?
- We have spent the last few months gathering information and creating a conceptual design as well as doing a financial analysis.
- We currently are in the process of preparing the land (surveys, wetland delineations, plat submissions, soil borings) as well as setting up meetings with the city and county for their approvals.
- After the membership approval, we will authorize our architect to continue working on the details.
- The tentative plan is to begin construction in the spring of 2010.
3. How much do we pay now for rental of the school and offices
compared to how much our mortgage will be?
We currently pay about $6,000 a month in rent and utilities. The mortgage on a new building is estimated to be around $8,800 a month plus around $2,000 a month operating expenses (utilities, cleaning, insurance, etc.).
4. Is it possible to put windows in the sanctuary to allow for
natural light?
It is possible to include some windows. The sanctuary roof line in relation to the side wings eliminates the ability to have windows the sides of the sanctuary except for the platform end. Windows could be included on both the front and back peaks if desired.
5. Why is the building positioned on the property the way that
it is?
The positioning of the building on the site is as it is for the
following reasons:
- Segments of federally designated wetlands throughout the property.
- A city sewer line that runs through the property from the entrance to the railroad tracks.
- Planning for secondary phases.
- Highway visibility.
- We want to reduce the cost of building long driveways.
6. Understanding part of the roof is flat - How do we keep from
having problems with drainage?
The roofing materials and process have been continually improved over the years to the point that the commercial construction industry now builds most buildings with flat roofs. Roofing materials and the engineering of drainage systems now make flat roofs a much more economical option than peaked roofs. Peaked roofs are considered to be expensive and very energy inefficient.
7. Could there be storage problems with the space allowed and
what do we do in the future?
- There never is enough storage. We will need to make sure that we define and create storage areas in each of the ministry areas of the building. The storage area off of the sanctuary will mainly be used for tables.
- We might need to consider building a garage or storage shed of some kind for outside equipment. Maybe a detached 2 stall garage type of building can offer some additional storage and it might be something that the congregation can build outside of the main construction project.
8. What are the other phases of future building projects?
The secondary phases will be defined by the ministries of the
church that evolve over the next few years. A definition of the
3 phases based on our current view would be as follows:
- This first phase is intended to focus on the Sunday morning worship service and the support of that services as well as administrative space. This would include an office wing, a sanctuary, large gathering area and children's areas.
- The second phase will probably include an expansion to the existing sanctuary, new youth facilities, additional offices, and additional smaller meeting spaces.
- The third phase would consist of a larger sanctuary and the conversion of existing space to fellowship space. Music rooms, prayer rooms, drama rooms, etc. are all considerations to accompany the development of the larger sanctuary.
